Flood Relief Efforts: Fisheries and Oceans Committee

During the flooding this fall, amazing flood relief efforts were provided by private citizens and members of organizations like the Fraser Valley Angling Guides Association, who rushed into the flood waters to rescue stranded travellers by boat, deliver food, transport people to critical medical appointments, and save endangered species of sturgeon and salmon. They sprang into action using their own resources, including their own boats, fuel, and time. They continued to help in the days and weeks that followed with flood recovery, as they distributed flood clean up kits to impacted homes and monitored for stranded sturgeon and salmon.

At the Fisheries and Oceans Committee this week, I questioned government officials on when and how the Government of Canada plans to acknowledge and compensate them for their heroic efforts.
