EMPLOYMENT INSURANCE 

Federal government is waiving normal Employment Insurance (EI) rules for British Columbians left jobless by extreme flooding.

DISASTER FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

Disaster Financial Assistance (DFA) is now available for eligible British Columbians in southwest, central and southeast areas of the province and Vancouver Island who were affected by flooding and landslides from Nov. 14-16, 2021: The link below will provide the process for individuals, small businesses, farms and charitable organizations:

CHILLIWACK EMERGENCY SUPPORT SERVICES RECEPTION CENTRE

The Emergency Support Services Reception Centre is located at Evergreen Hall at 9291 Corbould Street for anyone needing immediate assistance.

CHILLIWACK AVAILABLE SHELTERS

Tourism Chilliwack has partnered with the Chilliwack Chamber in supporting the City and Reception Centre with housing evacuees and all guests finding themselves without shelter in Chilliwack. If you or someone you know is in need of housing, please call 604-392-1183 between 8AM – 8PM to request assistance.

Residents who have extra space available and are willing to assist those requiring shelter can contact Leanna at the Chilliwack Chamber via email leanna@chilliwackchamber.com to register.

*Please note, Tourism Ch’illiwack and the Chilliwack Chamber are not able to perform background checks on residents or evacuees at this time. Any participants taking part in this initiative do so at their own risk.

HOPE RECOVERY OPERATIONS

The Hope Food Bank is handling distribution for those directly affected by the flooding.  For more information, please contact Hope Community Services at (604) 869-2466.

Food and supplies have been, and will continue to be diverted to our regional small communities and First Nations to assist with their needs.  This is being coordinated through the Fraser Valley Regional District.

The District of Hope will provide further updates as they become available. Due to current Internet limitations, if you need further information, please call us on (604) 869-5671 or come to our front desk.

SPCA

The SPCA will be assisting with animal-related aid. For emergency boarding please call 1-855-622-7722.

The SPCA will have supplies for pets coming to the branch at 6797 Hopedale Road between 10 am and 4 pm.

If you find a stray dog please contact the FVRD care center at 1-844-495-CARE  *please note that their response times may be delayed due to strained resources. If you’re able: please keep the dog contained and safe, and post to social media groups to help reunite until AC is able to attend.

Chilliwack City Life Church

City Life Church is looking for volunteers for this week’s meal services for those who are still displaced from their homes. Volunteers will need to help with peeling vegetables, clearing tables, cooking, cleaning, etc. If you are able to volunteer please call City Life Church at 604-792-0694 to sign up. They are located at 46641 Chilliwack Central Road.

Yarrow Flood Relief Community Care Centre 

The community of Yarrow has established a Flood Relief Community Care Centre. They are looking for volunteers, food assistance, financial donations, housing assistance, and teams of people willing to help with cleanup. If you are able to volunteer please call Yarrow Alliance Church at 778-860-7500. They are located at 42228 Yarrow Central Road.
