Ottawa- Chilliwack-Hope MP Mark Strahl joined a growing chorus of Canadians calling on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to resign in light of testimony from the former attorney general and Liberal MP Jody Wilson-Raybould.

“The former attorney general has painted a disturbing picture of a prime minister who believes he is above the law, a man who is willing to sacrifice any principal for his own political expediency.” Strahl added, “Canadians can’t ignore this level of corruption. The prime minister must resign.”

Jody Wilson-Raybould testified to the Justice Committee yesterday that over a four month period she experienced “a consistent and sustained effort” to convince her to interfere in the criminal prosecution of SNC-Lavalin. She called the pressure she experienced “inappropriate”. Her refusal was met with “veiled threats”. In January the prime minister replaced her as attorney general.

Before her election as the Member of Parliament for Vancouver Granville, Ms. Wilson Raybould was a crown prosecutor, advisor at the BC Treaty Commission and elected regional chief British Columbia Assembly of First Nations.

“Throughout this process Ms. Wilson-Raybould has done everything that she could to expose the truth while Justin Trudeau has done everything that he could to cover it up. Her story is credible and should not be ignored,” said Strahl. “It is disgusting to see Liberals like Mission-Matsqui-Fraser Canyon MP attacking her testimony as ‘sour grapes’ and suggesting that a woman as accomplished as the former Attorney General was having her ‘strings pulled by her father’. Their clumsy attempts to discredit her will not work.”

Andrew Scheer and Canada’s Conservatives are calling on Justin Trudeau to resign. Further, Conservatives are asking that the RCMP immediately open an investigation into the numerous examples of obstruction of justice that were detailed in the testimony.
